Indigenous Sport Gallery
The Indigenous Sport Gallery celebrates the rich history and many contributions to sport by Indigenous athletes, teams, coaches, builders and volunteers in BC, and attempts to remedy that Indigenous athletes and teams have not been properly celebrated and honoured.
Introduction
What is now known as British Columbia is home to more than 200 First Nations with over 35 languages that belong to 7 different language families. This makes British Columbia the most linguistically and culturally diverse province in Canada. As a part of everyday life, sport has been central to the culture of Indigenous people since time immemorial, playing games like Ts'its'eqweló:l (battledore), sləhel̕ (stick and bone game), and nukaliilhmn (ring game).
