The BC Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1966 by Eric Whitehead and a group of sports-minded individuals. The goal was to establish a permanent tribute honouring BC’s outstanding athletes, teams and builders of sport. Since that time, 417 individuals and 64 teams have been inducted into the Hall. The BC Sports Hall of Fame educates and entertains through its programs and collections by telling stories of outstanding achievements in sport in British Columbia. It showcases the accomplishments of individual athletes and teams, as well as those who have contributed to the development of sport in the province. Internationally recognized as a leader in BC sport history, researchers, writers, media members and sport historians have gained access to and an appreciation of BC’s rich sporting heritage through the extensive artifact and archival collection. The BC Sports Hall of Fame is committed to working collaboratively with the community. Through museum displays, educational programming and outreach, the Hall advances its mission of building outstanding community legacies by honouring the past and inspiring the future.
